To the north of Lombardia are the Alps and the chain of lakes, and to the south, the great plain of the river Po.
While Lombardia may be Italy’s most heavily-populated region, with a big share of the country’s industry and commerce, that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible to get way from it all whether you head for the high mountains on the border with Switzerland, or the tranquillity of the Po.
The region is criss-crossed with waterways linking the Po with the lakes. These form the basis of the region’s cycle network, making it possible to navigate around the region while avoiding busy roads.
