Umbria and Le Marche are the two regions of central-southern on either side of the Apennines. The guidebooks tend to bracket them together as an add-on to Toscana, but that’s to do them a disservice. They have lots to offer in their own right from the Apennines to the gentler Tiber valley. The Parco Nazionale Monti Sibillini on the border between the two is a wonderful place for cycling – if you like climbing. There’s no shortage of sights to see from the UNESCO-listed sites at Urbino and Assisi to other great little cities like Perugia, Spoleto, Orvieto and Camerino
